State Employees Will Get a Raise Next Year

State employees in South Dakota will get a one-point two percent raise in the next year. It took legislators down to the final day of the session to agree on the money needed for the increase. Employees had not seen an increase in the past couple of years, while their health care costs have increased.

South Dakota State Employees Organization Executive Director Eric Olilla says legislators may meet this summer to talk about the employee health plan

Olilla says state employee pay should be a separate line item in the budget

Olilla says lawmakers have made special set asides for other groups in the past

Schools and health care providers also got small increases under the 2019 budget.
