Voters in the Wessington Springs School District head to the polls today to vote in a $3.5 million school bond election that would cover the cost of renovations to the aging high school.
Back in November, 59% of voters approved a $4.5 million bond to cover improvements to the school’s bathrooms, plumbing, electrical, flooring, HVAC, windows and to install an elevator.
However, it ultimately failed since a supermajority of 60% was required to pass the bond.
If voters approved the bond, the school district would take $1 million out of capital outlays to complete the project.
Polls are open until 7 p.m. at the Jerauld County Ag Building in Wessington Springs and the Buffalo County Courthouse in Gann Valley.
