Recent heavy snows coupled with an extended cold streak has raised the threat of spring flooding on many rivers, including the Big Sioux and James Rivers in eastern South Dakota.
Mike Gillispie, service hydrologist at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, says the current weather pattern is stuck.
Gillispie says a sudden warm up later in March would be a problem.
Gillispie says slow warming with little additional rain would be the best situation.
The next flood outlook for the region will be released on March 7th.
