Another county has been added to the list of counties now eligible for federal disaster funds from a storm system in mid-June. Spink County joins Beadle, Kingsbury and five others in a Presidential Disaster Declaration. President Barack Obama declared the counties federal disaster areas in early August. Strong winds gusting to 87 miles an hour blew through Huron on June 21st doing damage to electrical infrastructure from both Dakota and Northwestern Energy. The storm also caused major tree damage at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds and across Huron. Tornadoes were reported in the Hitchcock, Tulare, Carpenter and Iroquois areas. The City of Huron is eligible to have tree clean up costs reimbursed by the federal government with the funds.
