The U.S. House has passed their version of a five year farm bill on a 213 to 211 vote. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal says there were some components his group likes in the measure and he thinks they’ll be able to get it conferenced with whatever the Senate passes.
He says keeping the safety net in place and preserving crop insurance and leaving ARC and PLC programs intact are all positive provisions in the House measure.
VanderWal say some changes to wetlands conservation needs to be made when the farm bill gets to conference.
The farm bill passed by the House on their second try includes work requirements for SNAP participants which Democrats earlier objected to and helped lead to the defeat during the first vote on the farm bill earlier.
