A lot of activity up the hill as the former Dakota Pork refrigeration unit that was abandoned when it closed in 1997 was taken down Tuesday and clean up continues. Assistant City engineer with Huron said the north wall of the building was significantly compromised. The entire property is owned by a gravel company out of Mitchell. The clean up of that site is not related to the re-construction of 4th street south east that leads to the area. Taking place across the road is construction of the future site of the Huron Solid Waste transfer station. The project is on hold due to damage from high winds that destroyed the steel framework that was in place. Bennett said that site is ready to move into clean up mode.
Bennett said following the steel clean up, structural integrity of the footings will need to be conducted. There is no updated time line for completion of the new solid waste transfer station.
