SIOUX FALLS, SD – A South Dakota National Guard unit that has been overseeing about a dozen bases in Afghanistan on Thursday relinquished its command to a Massachusetts unit as it prepares to come home. The Sioux Falls-based 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade has served nearly a year in Afghanistan overseeing the bases in the Kabul area. The unit with about 200 soldiers is to return home next month. At least two of the soldiers with the unit live in Huron.
