Skyways Expansion Makes Huron a Nationwide Hub For Charter Flights

Local officials and representatives from the governor’s office were on hand at Skyways Aviation in Huron today for the official announcement of the purchase of the business by a new ownership group.

The company says the expansion will put Huron on the map as a nationwide hub for charter flights.

John Mende of Warwick, New York, CEO of the ownership group, says the fact that Skyways founder Danny Hofer already had the infrastructure in place made the company, and Huron, a natural choice.

Hofer will remain with the company as General Manager.

There are currently four aircraft available for charter at Skyways with plans to add more in the future. The aircraft are available 24/7 to transport 8 passengers at a cruising speed of 500 mph.

Mende says the group was looking for a home base in the Midwest.

Mende says Skyways plans to offer expanded aircraft maintenance capabilities in the near future which could mean more jobs.

Skyways has affiliated their aircraft fuel systems with multiple national fuel discount programs, making Huron an attractive stopover for all types and sizes of aircraft.
