A severe thunderstorm threatened the final night of the South Dakota State Fair in Huron. A warning for the single storm was first issued for Hyde County around five-P-M. The storm tracked just south of U.S. Highway 14 as it moved slightly southeast into Hand County moving south of Miller and over the area by Sunshine Bible Academy. The storm on radar appeared as it would miss the State Fairgrounds, but a new severe thunderstorm warning was issued at 6:30 for parts of Beadle, Jerauld and Sanborn Counties, that included the city of Huron. One inch hail was reported with the storm at various locations from south of Highmore to Wessington Springs. The National Weather Service said lightning from the storm was a greater concern for those at the State Fair, though no reports of lightning strikes at the Fair were made. Beadle County Emergency Management did report a lightning started grassfire three miles east of Broadland.
