While many Republican Congressman haven’t criticized the President publicly for his recent remarks about NATO and Russia, Senator Mike Rounds says that within the ranks there are discussions and concern. He says, often lawmakers try to make bold statements about the President but that he has found more success getting a message out by doing it in private.
Rounds says that’s why the Senate Armed Services Committee has reactivated the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Observer Group. He says this group of senators will be sending a message to the President that Congress will be active in all NATO activities going forward.
The Senate NATO group was created in 1997 to serve as a connection between the administration, NATO and the U-S Senate. It was disbanded in 2007.
