WESSINGTON SPRINGS, S.D. (AP) – U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson says it’s inspiring to see so many South Dakotans help the Wessington Springs community rebuild through donating and volunteering after a June 18 tornado damaged dozens of homes and businesses.
Johnson met Monday with Mayor Melissa Mebius and toured areas affected by the tornado. Johnson and Mebius also joined other city officials and emergency management personnel to discuss ways the community can continue to recover, rebuild and receive needed disaster assistance.
Johnson says Wessington Springs has received a tremendous outpouring of support from communities across the state.
The debris that filled the streets immediately after the tornado struck has been cleared, but officials say there’s still a long way to go in the recovery
