Darlys Hofer, MD, a board-certified urologist, has joined the Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) medical staff, according to David Dick, president and CEO for HRMC.
Dr. Hofer, who practices with Urology Specialists Chartered in Sioux Falls, sees patients in Huron at the HRMC Physicians Clinic on the second Thursday of each month. He joins Dr. Nathan Bockholt, a urologist also with Urology Specialists Chartered, who sees patients in Huron on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Having two urology specialists seeing patients on a monthly basis expands the availability of local urology care in Huron.
Dr. Hofer cares for patients of all ages focusing on the function and disorders of the genitourinary tract – the urinary tract in men and women and the reproductive system in men. Conditions he treats include, but are not limited to, overactive bladder, incontinence, erectile dysfunction, bed wetting, diseases of the prostate and urological cancers.
“I wanted to become a physician because I enjoyed science growing up and thought I would be able to excel at medicine,” says Dr. Hofer. “I appreciate urology as a specialty because it includes surgery and clinical consultations, which often allows me to build relationships with patients over a number of years.”
He earned his medical degree from the University of South Dakota (USD) in Vermillion, SD, and then moved on to complete his general surgery internship and urology residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He is also an associate clinical professor with the Sanford School of Medicine at USD.
Dr. Hofer is a Bridgewater, SD, native. In his free time, he enjoys caring for his animals and orchard on his hobby farm, hunting in the fall, skiing in the winter, working out and being a good dad.
