SDHP Wants to Add More Female Troopers to Its Ranks

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is actively engaging more women to join their ranks. A women’s recruiting seminar was held Thursday night at the Capitol Lake Visitor’s Center in Pierre. Trooper Sarah Schumacher says the Highway Patrol is behind the national average in regards to female staff.

Trooper Ashley Landon says a female trooper may be more approachable in certain situations.

Schumacher says the efforts of the Highway Patrol are beginning to pay off.

Additional recruiting seminars are planned for Aberdeen and Watertown on March 6th. Dates and times for seminars in Sioux Falls and Rapid City have not been determined. A second seminar in Pierre may be planned later.
