SDFU President Says Senate Bill To Lift Cuba Trade Embargo Could Help SD Producers

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden has introduced the U.S. Cuba Trade Act of 2017, a measure to lift the trade embargo with the island nation. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says if they can get that bill passed, it will help many U.S. agriculture producers.

He says given the state of the U.S. ag economy, having a new market like Cuba would be beneficial for farmers and ranchers.

Sombke says the U.S. Cuba Trade Act of 2017 is a great chance for Republicans and Democrats in Congress to come together and agree on legislation that’s positive for all American agriculture.

Wyden’s legislation is a pushback against President Trump who earlier rolled back former President Obama’s opening for the island nation.
