Trade Promotion Authority for the President will automatically renew at the end of this month for another three years unless Congress passes a resolution of disapproval.
The South Dakota Farmers Union opposes TPA. President Doug Sombke says that authority is even more concerning given the Presidents use of tariffs that’s led to a trade war.
He says America’s farmers are already feeling the impacts of the trade tariffs that has trickled down to the price of agricultural equipment.
Sombke says the administration keeps promising farmers will be protected from the effects of the trade war but he hasn’t seen anything yet.
Sombke says while he’d like to see Congress issue a resolution of disapproval on TPA, he doesn’t see it happening. He says they’ve failed so far to stand up to the President.
