May 21 is the voter registration deadline if you want to be eligible to vote in the June 5 primary election in South Dakota.
Secretary of State Shantel Krebs says registrations must be in by 5pm local time on May 21.
Krebs says most state residents who are eligible to vote are registered.
The Democratic primary election is open to registered Democrats, registered Independents and those with no party affiliation. The Republican primary election is closed so only registered Republicans are able to participate in that primary. All registered voters in South Dakota– including those registered as Libertarian, Constitution, Independent, No Party Affiliation and Other– are eligible to vote on Constitutional Amendment Y because it is a non-political issue.
Registered voters may view their sample ballot and polling location online via the Voter Information Portal on the Secretary of State’s website www.sdsos.gov.
As of May 1, 2018, there were 528,747 active registered voters in South Dakota.
