SD scientists to chat from a mile underground tomorrow

HURON, S.D. (AP) – People wanting to see the scientists who are working a mile beneath the earth in a shuttered South Dakota gold mine can take part in a videoconference from the Huron Events Center.  Attendees will be able to chat Tuesday with scientists situated 4,850 feet underground in the Black Hills, where physicist Jeremy Mock of the University of California, Davis, is working. He’s one of the scientists trying to detect dark matter in the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead.  A University of South Dakota physicist will talk about another experiment, which is looking for one of nature’s rarest radioactive rays.  The free event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. People who register can buy lunch by contacting the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau.
