Through an NRCS grant, the South Dakota Farm Bureau is working to establish a framework for wetland mitigation banks. Farm Bureau Executive Director Wayne Smith says this statewide system will help create better functioning wetlands and a user friendly system for farmers. He says the goal is to create a win win situation for farmers and the environment.
Smith says the ultimate goal once the framework is worked out is to have a uniform system.
Smith says they are still working out privacy concerns.
The mitigation bank framework is expected to be in place by August 31.
