SD Cooperatives Members Take Another Stab At Possibly Merging

The Boards of South Dakota Wheat Growers and North Central Farmers Elevator have decided to hold a second vote among their members about merging. Wheat Growers Board President Hal Clemensen says several factors led to this decision, including the depressed state of the ag economy and the wish of the members themselves to vote again on the merger.

He says both co-ops can benefit by merging.

Clemensen says both cooperatives face stiff competition.

South Dakota Wheat Growers and North Central Farmers Elevator are holding a series of twenty member meetings this week and next to inform them about merger details. On August 29 ballots will go out to members so they can vote by mail. Voting will end September 28. For more information on meeting specifics go to each co-op’s websites.
