School Superintendent Guilty Of Drunk Driving

A small town school superintendent has pleaded guilty to drunk driving. Wessington Springs School Superintendent Lance Witte (wit-ee) was not in court Tuesday in Huron but made the guilty plea through his attorney Doug Kludt. Witte’s blood alcohol content was point 192-percent which would require him to take part in the 24/7 sobriety program. However all of the alcohol monitoring bracelets available in Beadle County are in use and the Jerauld County Sheriff’s office doesn’t have the 24/7 program established. Circuit Judge Jon Erickson agreed to waive the 24/7 program requirement for Witte. Wessington Springs School Board President Pat Fastnacht (FOSS-not) says Witte is extremely regretful for what what Witte himself calls “an irresponsible decision on his part”. Fastnacht went on to say Witte has performed exceptionally well as Superintendent and the district anticipates He will continue to perform at a highly professional level for the school. The statement also says Witte is extremely thankful no on was hurt. 30 days of jail time has been suspended and Witte must pay a 700 dollar fine. His drivers license was revoked but Witte will be issued a work permit. The Wessington Springs School District is nearing the one year anniversary of a drunk driving accident that took the life of student Jasmyn Knippling on December 5th of 2009 Fastnacht made no mention of any disciplinary action regarding the incident.
