The Huron School Board met in special session Thursday night to decide what architecture firm the Board would retain for athletics facility improvements. Board President David Wheeler says one of the two companies who gave presentations Monday expressed interest in doing more with the project. Business Manager Kelly Christopherson says Mid-America Sports Construction wanted to do the project as a so-called “Design/Build” project….
Wheeler says statues require a governing board to establish policies regrading Design-Build” projects, to which the Huron School Board has none in place. Long-time Board member Tim VanBerkum says that doesn’t make him comfortable moving forward…
After further debate, Board member Kerwin Haeder says he was voting for a contract with Koch-Hazard Architects of Sioux Falls but was interested in the” Design-Build” concept…
The contract approved by the Huron School Board with Koch-Hazard is for the creation of project specifications for work at Tiger Stadium and tennis courts at the high school and related bidding documents.
