Huron Tiger football coach Michael Schmitz was named H-Club coach of the year at the Athletic Awards program this week.
Huron made their first trip to the state championship since 1992 last November in a season that included the program’s first win over Aberdeen since 1997 and the first win over Yankton since 1993.
Schmitz says coaches don’t set out to win awards like this.
He said last year’s run showed perseverance throughout the program.
Coach Schmitz says there were alot of unsung contributions along the way.
Volleyball coach Shelly Buddenhagen won the award last year.
