Authorities say a new phone scam is using the Spink County Sheriff Office’s phone number in an effort to capture credit card numbers. Spink County Chief Deputy Leroy Fuerst says that although the sheriff’s office’s phone number displays on the caller ID, the calls are not coming from the office. He suspects that scammers are using computers to dial the numbers. Fuerst says the caller is telling residents they may owe money for parking tickets from 2008. He says the calls started Wednesday night and continued on Thursday. Fuerst warns residents against giving their credit card number or private information over the phone, even if the call seems to be coming from police.
