Scam Targeting Grandparents Resurfaces in SD

Attorney general Marty Jackley is warning people about the so-called grandparents scam that’s resurfaced throughout the state.

He says his office received eight reports in two days. He says three people have given away cash ranging from $17,000 to $145,000…..

Usually by a wire transfer.

Jackley says the scammers search social media such as Facebook to gather family information and target grandparents.

He says seniors getting such calls should immediately hang up, or ask questions that only the grandchild would know the answer.
