Santfleben To Be Sentenced On Explosives Charge

The Huron man, who’s homemade napalm-like device lead to a two-hour overnight stand-off with police in April will be sentenced today. Christopher Santfleben reached a plea agreement with the Beadle County States Attorney’s Office to plead guilty to possession of a destructive device June 5th. A charge of possession of an explosive device with intent to injure, destroy or intimidate was dropped. The incident resulted in a two hour overnight stand off with police that included use of the Police Department’s Special Response Team. Beadle County States Attorney Mike Moore has described the material used in the device as similar to Napalm. Santfleben during his change of plea hearing admitted to using Dawn dish soap and a cooler along with other chemicals to make the device. He said the device would have “smelled pretty”. Santfleben could be sentenced up to 10 years in prison and fine up to 20-thousand dollars.
