This is the eighth year Huron’s Runnings store has hosted a Ladies’ Night Out in October with breast cancer information, refreshments, door prizes and specials with the funds contributed to Huron Regional Medical Center Foundation’s breast cancer awareness fund.
“I am so pleased with the support we’ve received for this event from friends and neighbors across the community,” said Shane Hood, store manager. “I’m also grateful for our employees who are very passionate about the event and raising funds for breast cancer awareness – they really work to make the evening fun for all involved.”
The event was coordinated by Laura Snowden of Runnings in Huron. Members of the Huron Regional Medical Center team were also on-hand to schedule mammograms and educate women about breast cancer prevention and detection.
In addition to taking advantage of discounts, customers could buy a Runnings Cinch Bag, which included coupons, for $1.00 and all proceeds from bag sale were donated. Runnings employees again went all out and donated a large variety of pink items to be raffled to customers. Throughout the month of October, Runnings customers could make a donation to post a pink ribbon sign in honor or memory of a loved one, adding to the total raised. The funds raised have been placed in the We’ve Got You Covered breast cancer fund in the HRMC Foundation.
“In total, $9,212 has been raised since our store first started hosting the event, all of which has been donated locally,” explained Hood. “Since 2011, Ladies’ Night events at Runnings stores in South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, New York, New Hampshire, Montana and Connecticut have raised more than $100,000.
“HRMC’s We’ve Got You Covered program is made possible in large part due to Runnings and this Ladies’ Night Out event,” explained Paul Rann, HRMC Foundation Executive Director. “Thanks to Runnings and other local partners, HRMC has been able to educate 100s of women on the importance of early detection and more than 20 women have received no-cost mammograms through the We’ve Got You Covered Program.”
Area women concerned about finances when scheduling a mammogram are invited to call 605-353-6214 or apply online at www.huronregional.org/mammos. All inquiries are kept confidential.
