South Dakota’s Mike Rounds was reading in his seat when an Amtrack train full of Republican lawmakers headed to a retreat Wednesday, hit a truck on the tracks in Virginia.
He says everybody was up, asking if anyone was hurt and lawmakers who are doctors were running to be of assistance, but it appeared there were only “bumps and bruises” in his car.
One person was killed and one person was seriously injured in the crash.
Lawmakers got on buses in Charlottesville, Virginia, to continue their journey to the Greenbriar Resort in West Virginia for a strategic conclave.
