Flooding in the area of the James River at Third Street in Huron has subsided to the point where city officials have re-opened closed roads. Jersey Avenue between Third Street and U.S. Highway 14 is open to traffic. Also re-opened are Sherman Avenue from Third Street to Ninth Street Southeast and Ninth Street from Sherman to Custer Avenue. Jersey, Riverside and Custer Avenues and Third Street have been closed on and off through-out the spring and summer due to water rising not only from the James River but from high flows coming down the Broadland Creek into Ravine Lake. Waibel Drive continues to be closed because of water flowing from the southeast spillway at Ravine Lake into the James River. City crews were able to pave Jersey Avenue over a new dike to keep water out of the Municipal Pool parking lot. Waibel was raised as well as a part of the dike project but has not been paved due to high water.
