CBS News is reporting that a well-known cybersecurity company says hackers have been targeting the energy sector in the United States. Cyber firm Symantec says in a new report that hackers codenamed “Dragonfly” have been able to infiltrate energy sector computer networks with malicious emails, so-called watering hole attacks, and Trojanized software.
Northwestern Energy Spokesman Tom Glanzer says they see some type of internet attack everyday.
Glanzer says utilities are committed to protect the US electric grid.
Glanzer says utilities are cooperating more to protect the entire US system.
The Department of Homeland Security released a statement saying they were aware of the reports, but saw no immediate threat to the US electric grid.
