A single vehicle crash Wednesday in Spink County has taken the life of a Redfield man. Herbert Blume’s 2014 Chevy Silverado pick-up was traveling six miles east and a mile south of Redfield when the 74-year-old’s truck drifted into the north ditch and got stuck in a slough near the intersection of 174th Street and 392nd Avenue. Blume attempted to dislodge the truck from the slough and get out of the ditch when the pick up caught fire. Blume died in the vehicle. Investigating officers with the South Dakota Highway Patrol say it’s unknown if Blume was wearing a seatbelt when the truck left the road. Fire departments from Redfield and Frankfort responded to the scene along with the Spink County Sheriff.
