The record setting rains of the last two days are taking the James River at Huron to the brink of minor flooding. The river gauging station at the 3rd street dam in Huron as of 5:45 this morning was at 10.16 feet. The river is expected to crest at 10.8 feet, two tenths below flood stage which is 11 feet. Two-day area rainfall totals from the National Weather Service include Howard at 3.76 inches. Five miles south-southwest of Iroquois picked up 3.2 inches. Huron had 3.08 inches over two days, with a record being set for rainfall in a day on Monday at 2.98. De Smet ended the two-day period with 3.06 inches and Wessington Springs had 2.88 inches. As for the possible near flooding on the James the river should crest out at 10.8 feet in the around six-am next Monday, October 21st.
