The South Dakota legislature’s rules review committee has approved rules worked out by a legislative task force that allows sales and consumption of raw milk. The new rules go into effect July 1. State Ag Secretary Lucas Lentsch chaired the working group that came up with the compromise rule.

The raw milk working group was formed following the end of the 2014 legislative session and worked through the 2015 session to reach the compromise.
