Sad. That’s the first thoughts of Jim Borszich the Executive Director of the Greater Huron Development Corporation after hearing word that long time Huron industrial mainstay Raven Aerostar will be stopping it’s production of military products on November 19th….
In a press release Raven Aerostar says the timing of the decision to shutter the Huron plant is closely tied to the end of government contracts for products supporting military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as uncertainty as the level of future federal military spending. Borszich says while there are plenty of available jobs in Huron for the 75 people who will be out of work, there are still challenges…
Borszich says they’ve had some idea that the 47 years of Raven Aerostar in Huron could be nearing an end…
Borszich is worried that closures like the Raven Aerostar plant in Huron could be the beginning of many similar shut downs across the country….
Borszich says he believes some of those affected by the closure have found other work. Raven is offering affected workers severance pay.
