RAILROAD CROSSING SAFETY DISPLAY BROUGHT TO HURON

A couple motor vehicle – train collisions in eastern South Dakota has brought an Operation Lifesaver display to Huron along Dakota near the RCP & E crossing.  Operation Lifesaver has been committed to railroad safety since 1972.  Their efforts have steadily reduced collisions.  In 1972 the train motor vehicles collision numbers hit a high near 12,000 that number dropped to approximately 2200 in 2019.  Kevin Brown Operation Lifesaver of the Dakotas state coordinator talks about what the drop reflects.

He said railroad crossing safety varies from urban to rural areas.
