Racing To Raise Money For Huron DARE Program

A re-built race car is making the rounds in Huron for the WISSOTA 100 car race, but NOT on the track. “Racecar” Bob Hiller and his wife Maybelle Koeller are back in Huron to help raise money for the Huron DARE program. In 2008 Hiller turned the late model stock car he drove competitively into a street legal two-seat automobile. Hiller says a lot goes into making the car legal to drive in the city…

The couple are from Sedalia, Missouri. Hiller says it took two and half hours for the Missouri Highway Patrol’s inspectors to approve the car for street use. Normally it takes half an hour. Hiller has raised over 98-thousand dollars with the DARE race car for charities from Child Safe and Make A Wish in addition to the DARE program. Hiller says there is more to his mission than just raising money…

A ride in the car cost 10 dollars with ALL money raised going to the Huron DARE program. Hiller says this year they’re adding prize baskets to give away…

Those who pay the 10 dollars for a ride will be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to ride with Bob as he uses the DARE race car as the pace car for the Saturday night A-Feature races to close out the three-day season ending WISSOTA 100 races in Huron. And much like a real race car, the sponsors on the DARE race car help, Hiller pay the cost of taking the car around so that 100-percent of proceeds raised can go to the featured organization.  The rides are available starting at 11 AM Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
