The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has ordered payments from the bond of H & I Grain of Hetland to producers that had sold them grain.
H&I Grain had locations in DeSmet, Arlington, and Hetland
Commissioner Chris Nelson says that came after the grain dealers license had been revoked last summer
Nelson says the four hundred thousand dollar bond falls far short of the losses
Losses were estimated at several million dollars due to grain hedging by one of H & I employees.
Nelson says business failures will happen, but they have worked on law changes to protect against these type of losses
Nelson says a number of producers have filed civil lawsuits in an attempt to recover more of the lost money.
