PUC Delving into NTBS Report on Pipeline Spill

South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioners and staff are studying the National Transportation Safety Board report on the cause of the oil leak at the Keystone Pipeline near Amherst last fall.
The NTSB said a metal tracked vehicle caused a crack in the pipe during construction.
Commissioner Gary Hanson is concerned whether a fatigue crack indicates potential future challenges with the pipeline.
PUC staff is also waiting on another report from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
