A committee responsible for watching the development of South Dakota’s revised public safety improvement act held their first meeting Thursday in Pierre.
The oversight committee will track the legislation that opened the way to put fewer people in jail, and move more toward treatment and rehabilitation.
Committee member, Representative Karen Soli of Sioux Falls says there was broad input in the development of the legislative action…
Soli says to be successful, the program has to be more than budget based…
Soli says the changes are not meant to be a free pass for criminals…
The oversight committee will meet twice yearly to review progress under the legislation.
