Presho Fire Chief Dies Fighting Weekend Blaze

The chief of the Presho Volunteer Fire Department has died after experiencing a medial condition while fighting a fire Saturday evening.

According to the Lyman County Sheriff’s Office, the firefighters were working to extinguish a structure fire in rural Lyman County. Chief Donald “Donny” Manger was getting out of a vehicle when he collapsed to the ground. CPR was started immediately. The 54-year-old Manger was taken to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is under investigation by multiple entities.
