Customer Service Supervisor Donita Sperry (spare-ee) with the US Postal Service in Huron says you should consider shoveling or plowing a shortcut through your yard if your carrier uses a shortcut in the summertime and you are ok with a shortcut across your property. Sperry says failure to clear a path will keep mail from your box….

Property owner may be held liable for damages and medical expenses if a mail carrier is injured because of unsafe conditions on sidewalks. Carries normally work 7 to 10 hours a day and up to 12 hours a day if short staffed.
