Poet Breaks Ground on Expansion in Loomis

The Poet Bio-Refining plant at Loomis has broken ground on another expansion of its line of livestock feed products. POET officials along with local government and business leaders helped turn dirt Wednesday. Matt Reiners is vice-president of business development for Poet Nutrition. He says it’s a pelleted form of its traditional meal product for livestock…..

Right now the meal that’s co-produced during the ethanol process is shipped by rail for export overseas. Reiners says the goal is to sell the pelleted form to South Dakota livestock producers so they have a more usable feed ingredient for their rations.

The new $5-million dollar plant should produce between 70,000 and 100,000 tons at full capacity. Reiners says the new facility is targeted to be up and running sometime in early September.
