A plea agreement has been reached in the Lance Witte case. Witte, the Superintendent of the Wessington Springs School District was set to go to trial on a charge of driving on a revoked license on July 20th. In response to a written request to allow audio, video and still photos in Witte’s trial by a Huron radio station, Third Circuit Court Administratior Tony Benning says after bringing the request up with Judge David Gienapp, the judge informed him that a plea was made but that a court date for the change of plea hearing was not made yet. There was no word on whether the media request for expanded coverage will be permitted for the hearing. Witte was pulled over, arrested and released for driving on a revoked license while on probation from a drunk driving conviction 17 days earlier. Witte has maintained the incident was a misunderstanding regarding paperwork for a work permit that he felt was properly filed. The Wessington Springs School District has given its full support to Witte while his case has moved throught the courts.
