The same story won an Award of Merit Eric Sevareid Award for audio last month. Second Place was awarded to Performance Radio in the “Continuing Story” category for coverage of the events following former Huron Police Chief Doug Schmitt’s testimony on an illegal immigration bill before the South Dakota Legislature in 2011…

The Doug Schmitt story won a First Place Sevareid Award in the similar “Series” category. Performance Radio won two First Place AP awards. The first is in the Spot News/Breaking News category for coverage of a gas leak near Madison School last year…

The Madison Gas Leak story also won a First Place Sevareid award for Spot News. The other First Place AP award is in the General Reporting category, for a story about Wessington Springs School Superintendent Lance Witte pleading guilty to driving on a revoked license..

Performance Radio News won a third place AP award in General Reporting last year, and now has five Associated Press awards to go with 15 Eric Sevareid Awards.
