The award season for news in South Dakota ended Friday with announcement of winners in the annual Associated Press Dakotas Broadcast Contest. Performance Radio News won six-awards including four first place and two third place nods. One story won two first place awards. A May 2014 story about an active shooter drill at Huron Regional Medical Center won first place in the General News and Best Use of Audio categories….
The final first place award was in the website category for our website, www.performance-radio.com. Third place awards were given in General Reporting for a story on the James River Master Plan and a feature story on Huron High School graduate Kortny Sterrett, winning the prestigious Jack Shelley broadcast scholarship last spring.
Performance Radio News now has a total of 27 Associated Press awards to go with 33 Eric Sevareid awards for a total of 60 awards for excellence in broadcast journalism in the past six years.
