If you we’re wondering why a man was hanging off of the KIJV radio tower in Prospect Park yesterday, now we can tell. Flor Authier spend nine hours Wednesday removing three F-M antenna bays that formerly broadcast 99-point-one F-M. New bays are being installed on the tower for new F-M translator station. Per F-C-C rules a translator can only rebroadcast a current on-air signal already in place. 95-point-three F-M will be an F-M simulcast of 1340-AM KIJV. The addition of KIJV on the FM dial will hopefully allow those who enjoy listening to Tiger games in the Huron Arena on KIJV get better reception of the games inside the Arena’s shell. Performance Radio hopes to be able to start using the new F-M signal on May 29th. The current KIJV tower in Prospect Park replaced the original KIJV tower back in the 1950’s and is nearly 200 feet tall. Because the tower is the antenna for KIJV and is energized, KIJV had to be off air yesterday while the work took place. KIJV returned to normal broadcasting around eight P-M last night
