The Drug Enforcement Administration collected nearly 469 tons of unwanted medication at the 17th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event, April 27. A record setting 6,398 sites were hosted by more than 5,000 law enforcement partners, including the Huron Police Department.
In South Dakota, 1,634 pounds of potentially dangerous and unwanted drugs were discarded at 25 sites with assistance from 24 local, state, tribal and federal partners.
If you were unable to make the event, there is also a 24/7 drop box, just inside the east entrance of City Hall. This box can be used year round, to help you dispose of unused medications and not have to wait until collection time.
The next National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is set for Saturday, October 26.
