One man died Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash near Carpenter.
Names of the three people involved are not being released pending notification of families.
A 2008 Chevrolet Uplander mini van was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 28. A GMC 3500 van was westbound at the same location when the driver lost control on the ice covered road. The GMC vehicle slid into the eastbound lane and collided with the Uplander.
The 69-year-old male passenger in the Uplander was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Both drivers also were injured. The 67-year-old female driver of the Uplander suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Huron hospital. The driver of the GMC, a 25-year-old female, sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Watertown hospital. Both women were wearing seatbelts.
Charges are pending against the 25-year-old driver.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
