One person died and two others were injured in a three-vehicle crash that occurred late Monday morning east of Mitchell.
Names of the three people are not being released pending notification of family. They were the only three people involved.
A 2014 Buick LaCrosse was westbound on Interstate 90 and had slowed down due to traffic being backed up because of a crash on I-90 at mile marker 333. A westbound 2012 Dodge Ram pickup rear-ended the LaCrosse, causing it to strike a 2018 Toyota Corolla.
The 76-year-old female driver of the Buick LaCrosse was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
A 71-year-old male, who was driving the pickup, was taken to the Mitchell hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.
Also transported to the Mitchell hospital was the 69-year-old male driver of the Toyota Corolla. He suffered minor injuries. It is not known whether he was wearing a seatbelt.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
