As two major road construction projects continue in Huron officials with the South Dakota Department of Transportation and City of Huron remind drivers to use caution in the work zones. Reduced speed limits are being enforced by police and are in place to keep both driver and worker safe. In the Highway 37 work zone from 15th Street North to a half mile north of 27th street the speed limit is 25 miles an hour on a gravel surface. On Highway 14, the speed limit is dropped to 35 miles an hour and in the work zones, traffic has been placed head to head. Huron area engineer Wayne Cramer says the orange cones and barrels in construction areas is the only buffer highway workers have from traffic in the work sites. Officials ask drivers to be patient, don’t speed, stay alert, pay attention, be ready to stop, expect the unexpected and to not tailgate the vehicle in front of you. Both projects are expected to last all summer and wrap up in October.
