Officials Advise Lake Mitchell May be Unsafe for People and Pets

The City of Mitchell is recommending that people and pets stay out of Lake Mitchell.

Signs have been posted at the 15 main access points around the lake.  Lake Mitchell may be unsafe for people and animals.

People are asked to keep pets away from water and avoid water contact such as swimming, wading, or water skiing.

The city yesterday afternoon closed Sandy Beach due to E. Coli levels that have exceeded the EPA’s allowable limit.  The beach will remain closed until levels have returned to safe levels for water recreation activities.

The Mitchell Parks and Recreation Department performs sampling of lake water on a weekly basis from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
